Attorney Rachael K. McCarthy has been a passionate advocate for the rights of immigrants in the United States since her youth.
Attorney Rachael K. McCarthy has been a passionate advocate for the rights of immigrants in the United States since her youth. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in the Midwest. She attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Spanish, and minors in European Studies and Latino Studies. During her time in Bloomington, she was actively involved in the Hispanic community, and studied abroad in Guanajuato, Gto., Mexico. Following college, she attended the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis, Indiana. While in law school, she served as the Vice President of the Hispanic Law Society and held positions at the Immigrants’ and Language Rights Center at Indiana Legal Services, and in the legal department at the Julian Center, a women’s shelter in Indianapolis.
Following law school, she spent two years in Harlingen, Texas, on the Mexican border, practicing family-based immigration and removal defense in both detained and non-detained courts. She then practiced immigration law with a small firm in Indianapolis, Indiana, including before the Indianapolis Field Office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the Chicago Immigration Court. She next practiced before the USCIS Offices and Immigration Courts in Newark, New Jersey and New York City, before returning to her native Michigan to establish her own practice.
Rachael represents immigrants before the Detroit Field Offices of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as well as both detained and non-detained immigrants before the Detroit Immigration Court. She also represents clients before the U.S. Department of State in consular processing.
In her free time, Rachael enjoys spending time with her dog, Romeo, and with her family, hiking, camping and traveling.
